Simple Steps to Create A Bohemian Living Room Like A Professional | Inner Artist

September 19, 2017

If you like the bohemian look but don't know where to start, you have stumbled upon the right blog! Today I’m sharing a couple of ways you can create a bohemian living room styled right into your home.

Accent Rugs

The best place to start for your Bohemian living room style (or any style for that matter) is with an area rug. Build from the ground up since it will probably be one of the most expensive items you purchase. It’s usually much easier to match accessory colors to a rug you love rather than trying to find a rug that matches your accessories and other furniture.

Bohemian Colors

I can’t say I have a favorite bohemian color palette, but I do love white walls with rugs (kilim are my favorite for boho) in the blue tones and the red tones as a base to start. Once you have added your accent rug, add neutrals into the layering mix, like wood, bamboo, sisal, cow hides, alpaca throws and woven fabrics.

Wall Decor

There are so many things you can add to your walls to give it a bohemian touch. Of course, my favorite thing to add is artwork! A nice eclectic mix of styles, sizes, and frames are a great addition to your walls, but as I said, bohemian means mixing things up. Add flat baskets to the wall or hooks for plants.... and the always fun macrame.

Here are a few bohemian dos and don'ts:

  • Don’t go macrame crazy and have it on the wall, chair, coasters, hanging basket for a plant. Choose one and let it shine on its own otherwise, it can look like you tried too hard.

  • Do add ethnic patterns. Travel is part of the bohemian lifestyle so by having textiles from around the world, they add to the character of the space.

  • Don’t be afraid to shop in thrift and secondhand stores; this is where you will find the most perfect pieces.

  • Do add plants. Greenery adds that bit of freshness and texture to your boho space.

There are some great shops here in Orlando to look for cool vintage furniture and artwork for your bohemian living room. A & T Antiques, The Lovely Boutique, Adjectives and 1618 Something Different are all good shops. There are so many more shops that I haven't listed where you can find something you've gotta have, so on your next day off browse around some cool Orlando shops.
