2018 Spring Trend: Impact Patterns & Color For Upholstered Goods | Inner Artist

February 9, 2018

It all started with this orange sofa from Rowe furniture.

It isn’t something I would normally look for, but now that I’ve found it….wow! I absolutely love this sofa. Since we're friends, I'll keep it completely honest, I would love to see the cushion in a deeper orange velvet for more of an impact. Aside from that aspect, the fabric actually makes me happy.

Letting this sofa stand out on its own and be the piece that inspires everything else that you put in the space is what it was made for.

Normally, I'd consider myself more of neutral color girl when it comes to my furniture and then I add the color with rugs, accent chairs, pillows, and artwork. This much pattern and color in one piece of furniture is a real change for me but it is freeing at the same time.

To go with this couch I imagine fun blue and white striped chairs and some fuzzy alpaca hair pillows for great texture. Think of fun, bright, playful artwork to really keep the colors and positivity flowing will top it all off.

This exactly the kind of thing that just inspires me to be bold and think differently. And let's be honest, couldn’t we all use a bit of that every now and then?

Here are a few more great inspiration pieces of furniture that have fun with patterns and colors and can start the creative juices flowing.

This great bold tribal pattern can work really well with a solid rug but would be much more fun with a patterned rug.  Pattern on pattern (the right ones) can be awesome and add a lot of character to a room.

This chair is wonderful! It can be fun and bold when placed with the right furniture or it can be cozy and warm in a different space.  The antiqued faded look of the fabric with the clean lines of the mid century modern form makes this a great chair for many different esthetics.

The bright happy fabric for these barstools brings life into this kitchen. This kitchen could have gone to a formal look with leather chairs and nailhead trim but the bright colors and and fun pattern bring it to a more casual, happy sort of space.

This stunning chair shows how you can take a fabric that can go very wrong and turn it into something very right and get a high end look.  The subtle pattern in the rug and the way the black in the fabric ties into the piano makes for a perfect sophisticated balance.  This a a bold choice done really well.

What can I say? I want to go to the beach! Everyone loves Shibori style fabric.  They are bold and beautiful but at the same time, calming and peaceful.  Tell me you aren’t building a room around this beautiful sofa in your head right now?

All of these fabrics are serve as inspiration to me.  They are starting places for what is to come and discover. If you're looking for some ideas on switching up your normal look to something new and different, try to find unique fabrics! Don't worry about being too bold because you can always dial it down with complementing pieces around it.

Most important of all, try to think outside the box! You'll be surprised how much you will like it.
